As mentioned in various places, I have the unenviable task of sorting through my parents’ possessions and papers due to their recent passings.  One of the interesting things about this task is the little discoveries I make regarding the things they saved over the years (and there’s a LOT).  This was in my dad’s “XXX” envelope (don’t ask), and dates back (as near as I can figure) to the 1940s.  It’s a recipe for “Banana Nut Cake” and translates as follows:

Take an armful of well formed girl.
Two laughing eyes.
Two cherry lips.
Squeeze till warm.
Add a little spooning to make it raise.
When good & hot add banana.
Work up and down till banana creams.
Then add the nuts.
The result will be astonishing.
Two rolled up eyes.
A soft banana & a sigh of relief.
The cake is done.
Set on porch to cool.
This is a good cake, so they say.

myfengshuilife:  Oh my. How interesting to find this here. I grew up in Syracuse. (and this looks a lot like my grandmother’s handwriting.)
